Small Greenhouse Packs Wide Variety of Delightful Choices
Savannah, MO – Kaitlyn Ruoff has recently opened Huckleberry Gardens, a greenhouse selling annuals, succulents, vegetables and herbs, as well as unique planters. Kaitlyn, owner of this new enterprise, is a 2020 graduate of Northwest Missouri State University who majored in Agriculture Education.
Kaitlyn’s business actually started in 2014, when she just started selling fairy gardens. Since then it has expanded to the current establishment. Huckleberry Gardens is unique among other greenhouses because we offer a wide variety of one-of-a-kind planters made from vintage materials. The owner says, “We keep our prices reasonable. We may look like a very small greenhouse but we have more plants than you’d expect.”
When asked about her own entrepreneurial journey and whether she has any “words of wisdom” for other individuals wanting to start a new business venture, Kaitlyn says, “I have always had an entrepreneurial spirit. From a young age, I remember enjoying fundraisers for organizations I was in and was always trying to find something I could sell so I could have my own business. My biggest struggle while opening my business has been getting people to know I am here, and that I have a variety of plants in my small greenhouse. Looking to the future I envision my business expanding each year over the next 5-10 years. My greatest piece of advice for others wanting to start a small business is to take risks. It may seem scary to open a new business, but start small and your dream can become a reality“.
Kaitlyn credits Keli Morris, NWMEF Facilitator, as a great help while starting her business. She says, “She has been there to answer any questions I’ve had. I first heard about Northwest Missouri Enterprise Facilitation while I was participating in Leadership Savannah class of 2016.”
Northwest Missouri Enterprise Facilitation in conjunction with the Savannah Area Chamber of Commerce are hosting a business celebration to welcome Huckleberry Gardens on Monday, May 18th, in a Facebook Live Stream on the Savannah Area Chamber of Commerce Facebook page – facebook.com/savannahmochamber event at 10:00 A.M.
